Most commercial paving projects are built with a thicker asphalt structure to handle heavier traffic and long-term use. A common setup is approximately 6 to 8 inches of total asphalt, installed in two layers. The base layer is typically HL8 asphalt, which provides structural strength, followed by a HL3 asphalt top coat that creates a smooth and durable finished surface. For specialty areas such as walking paths or trails, a fine HL3 mix is often used to provide a smoother finish.

Many of our commercial jobs involve R&R (remove and replace) asphalt, where the existing pavement is removed and rebuilt with a properly prepared base and new asphalt surface. Our team handles the entire process in house including excavation, grading, base installation, asphalt paving, and final line painting. This allows us to maintain consistent quality and keep projects moving efficiently.

In most commercial paving projects we install a crushed asphalt base, which is graded and mechanically compacted to create a stable foundation before any asphalt is placed. Proper compaction is extremely important, and in some projects compaction testing may be performed to confirm the base meets the required density before paving begins. A properly prepared base helps prevent settlement and extends the life of the asphalt surface.

These plans outline important details such as grading elevations, drainage, base structure, and asphalt thickness. Our team works closely with the project specifications to ensure the paving meets the required standards while maintaining proper drainage and surface performance.

Yes, all of our line painting and pavement markings are completed in house once the asphalt has properly cured. This includes parking stalls, handicap markings, directional arrows, fire routes, crosswalks, and custom layouts based on the site plan. Handling this work ourselves ensures the layout matches the plans exactly and allows us to complete the project efficiently from start to finish.
